Honda SmartCharge App May Offer Car Charging Benefits

Electric vehicles are the wave of the future, and Honda is working so that every aspect of electrification delivers a satisfying customer experience. One of the new options rolling out in select markets for the Honda Fit EV is a new app called “Honda SmartCharge” which is designed to help streamline the charging process. But how does Honda SmartCharge work and what benefits does it offer?
How does Honda SmartCharge work?
The Honda SmartCharge app is currently in the beta testing stage and only available for select customers in California. It helps coordinate driver needs and electric grid demand to charge the Honda Fit EV during times when electricity has a lower demand (and is therefore less expensive) instead of immediately when the vehicle is plugged in after a person gets home from work. The app works by communicating with both the vehicle telematics system and the electric grid and finding the best time to charge.
Benefits of using the SmartCharge app
Using this app can help drivers save money on electricity, but it can also make electric transportation more sustainable by using electricity during low demand times. Can I sign up for the Honda SmartCharge program?
At this time only California owners of the Honda Fit EV are eligible for this program. However, as plug-in electric vehicles and gas-and-electric hybrids (like the new 2019 Honda Insight and 2018 Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid) become more common we believe that it will have a wider audience and availability.
